Long white ears. Brown field equipment. A respirator with blue filters. Patch belongs to Expedition, the explorers, researchers, and treasure hunters who return to the surface to find what was left behind.
She is a rabbit Otherkind, and one of the first characters taking shape in the game.
Equipment that tells you something
Patch’s look begins with the practical: a cropped leather jacket, cargo trousers, knee pads, and a belt of small supplies. Her silhouette has to work even when she’s small on screen.
The cyan crystal gauntlet on her right arm gives that silhouette a clear point of contrast. It also sits within the wider art direction: equipment in this world combines science, magic, and the evidence of being used.
Every mask wearer has a reason to go above. Expedition’s equipment is personal and practical, shaped by fieldwork rather than a uniform. Patch carries that idea into her design.
From character to movement
Her current sprite pack contains idle, walk, run, cast, take-hit, and defeat animations, with six directional views. A common ground anchor keeps her planted as poses change, and the timing is authored for each action.
We’re keeping the character compact without squeezing every pose into the same silhouette. Ears, a gauntlet, and a change in stance all need room to read.
A glimpse of the surface
The illustration above puts Patch on an elevated platform overlooking the ruins. Copper pipes and cyan filters sit beside her; beyond them is a city that no longer belongs to the civilization that built it.
This is concept artwork, exploring the atmosphere and scale of the world. Our gameplay focus remains PvP between mask wearers, and the game is still in development.
Patch is part of a larger story: people with different reasons to venture above, and different ideas about what should come back down.
There is more of that world in our first worldbuilding entry.
